Have you heard of Jon Acuff? Jon’s hard core.
He teaches people like me and you how to punch fear in the face and do work that matters. He jumped from a regular day job to his dream job and lived to tell about it.
About two months ago, he started a 24-day challenge via Facebook called the #StartExperiment. I signed up because that’s the kind of stuff I dig. I didn’t realize I’d find myself smack in the middle of a community of over 2,000 hyped-up dream catchers and vision implementers.
Me, I kind of stood on the sidelines taking in all the action and quietly working on my goal of launching an ebook. The rest of the group–they weren’t just throwing out ideas or pontificating about grand dreams. They were living them out–unapologetically, boldly and without waiting for permission. For instance, one group started a rogue #STARTExperiment group and proceeded to raise thousands of dollars to send a lucky few to Jon’s START Conference.
Who does that? Actually comes up with an idea, then does it before fear or doubt ever has a chance to creep in? And to see people in this day and age of “me, me, me” willing to do something generous for others, let alone people they’ve never even met in person?
We moms need a bit of Jon Acuff-ness in our lives. We need to say goodbye to the mundane and wake up those dormant dreams. It’s good for us, and it’s good for our kids to see.
Maybe it’s an idea for a family business or a mentoring program for teenage moms.
It could be the potluck dinner you’ve been wanting to plan for the moms in your neighborhood or that something you think is missing from the ministry offerings at your church.
Maybe it’s a wild iPhone app idea or cool invention for new moms.
The possibilities are as wide as you think them, so let’s get started!
