Hey y’all, it’s been a minute since I last posted (like a day shy of two months). I can’t believe we’re already nearing the end of January 2017. Here’s a quick update on life in my world.
This was our first year not traveling to see family for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. It was nice having the extra days at home to relax and hang out around the house, although I did miss the hustle and bustle of our large family gatherings. The kids and I all received new bikes, and I’ve been happily riding mine around the neighborhood and even to the gym.
Speaking of the gym, I back to exercising again!! I’m not quite where I need to be given that I’m supposed to run a 10K in late February. However, I’m at least getting in several days of exercise each week. I’m a little frustrated with how much flexibility and stamina I’ve lost since my late 20’s, but such is life. I remind myself that I didn’t get in this situation overnight and shouldn’t expect to jump back into shape overnight.
I’ve also changed up my diet by starting another round of Whole 30. I’m on day #18 as I write this and am really enjoying all the new vegetable dishes I’m trying. I had no clue that I’d like brussel sprouts, which have to be the cutest vegetables around. My fav new dishes this week have been the one pan Autumn Chicken Dinner, Potato Hash and Parmesan Butternut Squash Fries (minus the Parmesan)…yum!
Work has been insanely busy lately. No matter how much I accomplish in a day, it still feels like a page long list of to do’s is waiting in the wings. Hopefully, this will settle down once we fill a couple of positions in the office. Nevertheless, my coworkers are cool to work with and keep me laughing.
The kids have settled into their new school and are enjoying learning new Spanish words as part of their dual language program. I am constantly challenged to be present and intentional with them and am always looking for ways to inject creative outlets into our our routine. A favorite game of ours right now is what we call “The Drawing Contest.” We each take turns throwing out a word, which could be an object, place, action, etc. that we all have to try to draw. We keep going until we’ve filled up an entire page (or two) with drawings. It’s been fun seeing what words the kids come up with, and I’m always amazed at their drawing skills.
Finally, one of my “resolutions” for the year is to read all of my unread Kindle books and to try a few of classic literature works (a switch from my usual preference for non-fiction books). The challenge with this goal is I love buying Kindle books–especially when they’re on sale for less than $3–so my target continues to grow. Right now I’m reading The One Thing by Gary Keller, Give Me 40 Days by Freeda Bowers and a book that’s quite the opposite from these two, I’m Judying You by Luvvie Ajayi. I’m also using my commute to and from work to listen to the Hidden Figures audio book. I really enjoyed watching the movie and was eager to see what was left out from the book.
For more updates on what’s happening in my life, what I’m digging and what makes me laugh, check me out on Instagram or Twitter. I have a love-hate relationship with Facebook right now and don’t check it nearly as often as these two.
How’s life in your world?
